Frequently asked questions

How do I identify a plant?

Open Identify, take or choose a clear photo of one leaf or flower that fills the frame, pick which part it shows, and tap Identify plant. Tap Add on the best match to save it with a care schedule.

Why does it say I've used today's free identifications?

To keep HappyLeafy free, each phone gets a fair daily allowance (20 identifications, 10 photo diagnoses and 60 AI questions). It resets every day. Advanced users can add their own free Pl@ntNet or Gemini key in Settings to use their own allowance instead.

How is the watering schedule worked out?

It starts from the care guide for your plant's species (or its family), then applies fixed adjustments for the season, pot material and size, drainage and light where it sits. For outdoor plants, rain of 5 mm or more in your town counts as a watering. When a check is due, look at the soil first: if it's still damp, record that and HappyLeafy asks you to check again in a few days. If the soil is still damp at two checks in a row, it suggests a longer interval for you to confirm. It doesn't change your schedule on its own. You can always change the interval on the plant's page.

How much water should I give?

Set the pot size (or exact width) under Pot & spot on the plant's page and HappyLeafy shows an approximate amount. Always check the soil first, and pour until a little drains from the bottom.

I'm not getting reminders.

Check that notifications are allowed for HappyLeafy in your phone's Settings, and that Care reminders is on in the app's Settings. With Morning summary, you get one notification on days something is due. Vacation mode pauses reminders until your return date. Open the app at least once every two weeks so upcoming reminders stay scheduled.

How do I move my plants to a new phone?

On the old phone: Settings → Backup → Back up and save the file to iCloud Drive or Files. On the new phone: install HappyLeafy, then Settings → Backup → Restore and pick that file.

Is the AI advice reliable?

It's a helpful second opinion, not a guarantee. Check that the signs described match your plant before treating it, and avoid drastic changes based on a single answer.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone. Photos and questions are sent to identification and AI services only when you use those features. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a plant from its page, or delete the app to remove everything. We don't keep a copy. Usage counters on our server use a random ID and expire after 2 days.
